Create the day you want or live with the day you have created. That sounds like a contradiction but it isn't it's the reality of life. Your day is either the way you want it to be or it is the way that you have allowed it to be.
All too often we live an"outside in" life blaming the circumstances and events of our life for the way that we feel and behave. What we need to do if we wish to live an empowered life is to live an"inside out" life by determining the way that we wish to feel and behave despite the circumstances and events of our life.
Our lives are merely a sequence of events. The events themselves have no meaning until we give them meaning and we give meaning to the events in our lives by labelling them. The label that you give any event gives it it's identity and meaning and you react, not to the event but to your label.
Let me give you an example.
Let's say your are on your way to work and you get stuck in a traffic jam. You could say"Oh no. Not again. Now I'll be late and my boss will be angry." You could then get angry and think"Why doesn't somebody sort out these roads?" You could then find someone to blame."It's this useless Metro." You could feel frustrated and angry and you could allow the event to spoil your morning or even your whole day. The problem is that when you are frustrated and angry you don't think rationally and you may well behave very badly, hooting and creating a disturbance, driving in the yellow lane, shouting at other drivers and behaving angrily to the passengers in your car. What a horrible thing to do to yourself.
There is another way!
You could say"Oh dear there's a traffic jam. I wonder what caused it? I hope no one was injured." You could phone your office and let them know that you are parked on the highway and you'll be in later. You could accept that the roads are jammed and then evaluate how often it happens and perhaps plan a different route to work. You could accept that you are stuck in the traffic and that there is nothing that you can do about it so you might as well sit back and relax by listening to your favourite radio station or if you were really organised you could have a CD learning program and use the time to learn new skills. You could choose to remain calm and in control, behaving responsibly and ensuring that you do whatever you can to minimise any further disturbance to other road users. I am sure that you will agree that this choice will result in a much more relaxed and pleasant day.
Please accept and acknowledge your creative power. You, and you alone have the power to determine your attitude. You, and you alone have the power to choose how you label any event. You, and you alone create the emotions and behaviours that determine the state of your life.
So. Create the day you want or live with the day you have created. I wish you the emotional maturity to constantly choose to create the day you want.
