Create the day you want"

Create the day you want"

Create the day you want or live with the day you have created. That sounds like a contradiction but it isn't it's the reality of life. Your day is either the way you want it to be or it is the way that you have allowed it to be.

All too often we live an"outside in" life blaming the circumstances and events of our life for the way that we feel and behave. What we need to do if we wish to live an empowered life is to live an"inside out" life by determining the way that we wish to feel and behave despite the circumstances and events of our life.

Our lives are merely a sequence of events. The events themselves have no meaning until we give them meaning and we give meaning to the events in our lives by labelling them. The label that you give any event gives it it's identity and meaning and you react, not to the event but to your label.

Let me give you an example.

Let's say your are on your way to work and you get stuck in a traffic jam. You could say"Oh no. Not again. Now I'll be late and my boss will be angry." You could then get angry and think"Why doesn't somebody sort out these roads?" You could then find someone to blame."It's this useless Metro." You could feel frustrated and angry and you could allow the event to spoil your morning or even your whole day. The problem is that when you are frustrated and angry you don't think rationally and you may well behave very badly, hooting and creating a disturbance, driving in the yellow lane, shouting at other drivers and behaving angrily to the passengers in your car. What a horrible thing to do to yourself.

There is another way!

You could say"Oh dear there's a traffic jam. I wonder what caused it? I hope no one was injured." You could phone your office and let them know that you are parked on the highway and you'll be in later. You could accept that the roads are jammed and then evaluate how often it happens and perhaps plan a different route to work. You could accept that you are stuck in the traffic and that there is nothing that you can do about it so you might as well sit back and relax by listening to your favourite radio station or if you were really organised you could have a CD learning program and use the time to learn new skills. You could choose to remain calm and in control, behaving responsibly and ensuring that you do whatever you can to minimise any further disturbance to other road users. I am sure that you will agree that this choice will result in a much more relaxed and pleasant day.

Please accept and acknowledge your creative power. You, and you alone have the power to determine your attitude. You, and you alone have the power to choose how you label any event. You, and you alone create the emotions and behaviours that determine the state of your life.

So. Create the day you want or live with the day you have created. I wish you the emotional maturity to constantly choose to create the day you want.

Enthusiasm

Enthusiasm

So many times we feel that we are forced to do the things that we do. We feel that we have to do them and we feel that if we had a choice we would not do them. The problem is that when we feel this way we resent the things that we have to do and we look for ways to avoid doing them. This is not the way to be great.

There are those who say "To be happy, do what you love to do." These people do not understand life. Whether we like it or not this is a material world and we are material beings and one of the necessities of life is that we have to eat, and to eat we must have money, and to get money we have to sell our time and our skills. So if you did what you loved but what you love to do doesn't pay thebills then I guess you are going to have a problem. So here is my philosophy "Do what you do as if you love it!" The magic of this philosophy is that when you do what you do as if you love it you will be doing what you love to do.

But how do "I do what I do as if I love it" if I don't love it? Simple. Change your mind. The only reason that you don't love what you do is that you have chosen not to love it. You have placed an emotional burden on the task and you are thinking more about what doing this is stopping you from doing than what doing this allows you to do.

Here's what you do to change your mind. Find the value in what you do. What is the benefit to you? Who else benefits from what you do? What would happen to you if you could not do it? This is called enlightenment - being aware of the value and purpose of your actions.

There is a ZEN saying about Enlightenment, "Before enlightenment chop wood and draw water. After enlightenment chop wood and draw water", which really shows that life goes on and you must do what needs to be done. I don't like that saying much and I prefer to see it this way "Before enlightenment chop wood and draw water. After enlightenment chop wood and draw water aware of the wonder ofbeing able to chop wood and draw water" You see to me enlightenment means that we have removed the blinkers that we have been wearing that were stopping us from seeing the wonder of our ability to do what we are doing.

There is line of thought that states that you must discover your "life's purpose", I think that those who believe this haven't given it much thought. It's like you'll be wandering aimlessly down life's path and suddenly in a "pif" moment you'll discover your purpose. No wonder so many people are living unfulfilled lives. They are looking for the "unfindable". I often ask people who are on this quest, what it is that they are looking for and none of them know. Well if you don't know what you are looking for, how will you know that you've found it. You won't. So here's how I suggest that you deal with this problem. Since you don't know what your purpose is, how do you know that this isn't it? What if this that you are doing is your purpose. How would you do it then? Would you be more enthusiastic about it? I am sure that you would. So. Do everything that you do as if you believed it was your purpose. Remember the way to be great is to do all things great not just some great things.

To develop enthusiasm realise the importance of your actions. Realise that everything that you do affects your life. Every action is both a building block of your past and a foundation stone of your future.

The magic of being enthusiastic is that it takes the work out of life and puts the fun back in.

Love yourself enough to be enthusiastic about your ability to do what you do.

Everyone wants to win,

Everyone wants to win,
but so few are prepared
to do what it takes
.
The greatest difference between a winner and a loser is the fact that the winner is prepared to try, and looks for reasons why it should be done whereas the loser looks for excuses not to do it.
A winner says "It may be difficult but it is possible" A loser says "It may be possible but it is too difficult."
Winners use their intelligence to identify their usefulness, while losers use their intelligence to justify their uselessness.
What is there in your life that you really want to do, really want to change? What is stopping you from doing it? Beware, most limitations are imaginary and from the neck up. If there really is something stopping you then you should concentrate on overcoming that obstacle first, however mostly we merely look for excuses not to take action.
I received a phone call from someone who needed help with a drinking problem. "Who is in control?" I asked "What is stopping you from quitting?" "But you don't understand. I want to quit but I just have so many problems. My daughter is in a bad relationship. My mother is trying to run my life. My spouse has left me. I really want to quit but I must sort out these other problems first."
What excuses are you using to justify not doing what you say you want to do? What positive reasons can you find for doing it? What difference will it make if you change? What will the benefit to you, and to those around you, be if you make the change? What will happen if things continue as they are?
To change, to rise above your circumstances, you must do something different or something differently. You cannot solve a problem with the same thinking that caused it. You cannot get a different result by taking the same action.
Look for reasons to take action. Believe that while it may be difficult it is possible and that the benefits will be worth the effort. Realise that there is an inexhaustible source of power within you but it can only be accessed through purposeful action.
Realise that you can have whatever it is that you want in life if only you are prepared to do what it takes to get it.
Be the winner you were born to be. Be one of the few who are prepared to do what it takes to win in the game of life. Look around you and you will realise that "Everyone wants to win, but so few are prepared to do what it takes"
With best wishes
